So, what do you do to fix this, if you are using AOL?
It's very easy to fix actually. Just go to the "Preferences" on your
AOL tool bar. Then, select "WWW", and go to "Web Graphics".
Uncheck the box the says "Use compressed graphics". You may have to
clear your cache or restart AOL for it to take effect.
After you do this, images will look a lot clearer, and, you'll be able to save
pictures you like in their proper format. You'll wonder why you didn't do this
before...
The answer to that is the real crime here. You didn't do it before because
you didn't know. AOL doesn't normally bother telling anyone that the pictures
on the web don't have to look like that. If you ask them, they'll tell you,
but, many people on AOL are new to the web and don't realize there's anything
wrong. The "compressed graphics" were on by default when they installed
AOL. No one was asked if they wanted it. No one is told they had it turned on
until they start asking why everything looks so bad, or, why they can't save
a "jpg" file. Now, sadly, people are just accepting it. AOL is so
big, that now some newer web browsers and graphics programs will support ART
files because there are so many people using them who don't know any better.
Don't give in to this, because the fact is, AOL's "ART" looks like
crap, and is not the way the web should look!
Turn off the compressed graphics if you use AOL
Tell your friends on AOL how to get rid of ART so they can see images they way
they are supposed to be seen.
